Luton stabbing: Police launch murder investigation after teenager dies

Police have launched a murder investigation after a teenage boy was stabbed to death in Luton.

Bedfordshire Police said officers responded to reports of violent disorder at Kingsway Recreation Ground at around 6.30pm on Friday, where a number of youths were seen carrying large knives.

Police said an unidentified 17-year-old man was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds but was pronounced dead a short time later.

A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and is in police custody for questioning. Another was arrested but remains hospitalized with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are appealing to the public for information.

In a statement, Det Ch Insp Nick Gardener condemned the “appalling violence” that “sadly claimed the life of a young boy today”.

“Our thoughts are first and foremost with the loved ones of the child who lost his life in such a tragic way,” he said.

Such incidents have a “significant impact on our communities,” he said.

He also called on the public to report any information they have to the police and not to share images and videos circulating on social media.

Police presence and patrols will be increased in the area.
