Luxury apartment complex to replace former Ozcare aged care facility
Construction of a massive luxury apartment complex is to begin on the site of a demolished aged care facility in New Farm.
Dubbed “Rosemont,” the project at 424 Bowen Terrace will consist of 74 units and four single-family homes on a site nearly the size of a football field.
It covers a large part of the block and also has frontage on Moreton and Langshaw streets.
A communal garden, 20-metre swimming pool, gym, hot and cold plunge pools, private dining room, library and gallery will be built across six floors.
The elderly care center on the site was closed and demolished this year by Özcare, which has been operating for more than 30 years.
“Luxury condos coming soon,” signs outside the fenced area on Tuesday read.
This imprint had previously reported that the land was sold to Fortis, the developer behind the new project, for $37.5 million.
“Our focus has been to create homes that truly make you feel at home here, shaped by the views, light and the neighborhood’s enduring sense of community,” Dan Boman, the company’s general manager, said in a statement.
Construction will begin in July and is expected to be completed in late 2028.
Unit prices will start from $2.6 million. An artist’s impression of the building shows an Aston Martin costing more than $700,000 parked outside.
A Fortis spokesman confirmed four detached houses would be built once the flats were completed.
The project was objected to on the grounds that it was not in line with the character of the area and represented the overdevelopment of the area. The objection was later withdrawn.
The development was designed in collaboration with architect and interior designer DKO. Landscape architecture was done by LatStudios.
Fortis has several development projects underway across the city, including River House in Kangaroo Point, Crest & Walker in Newstead and a block of flats on the site of an existing shopping center on Racecourse Road in Hamilton.
