Motorists faced traffic chaos on the M1 this afternoon after a crash partially closed part of the UK’s main motorway. The crash occurred with two northbound lanes of the M1 motorway closed between J34 (Meadowhall) and J35 (Thorpe) in South Yorkshire. Emergency services, including South Yorkshire Police, are at the scene while National Highways Traffic Officers are assisting with traffic management.

It was reported that an air ambulance also arrived at the scene, and a person stuck in traffic wrote on Facebook: “The situation is bad. We are close to the front and the air ambulance has not taken off yet. I pray for a speedy recovery for everyone involved.” Traffic camera footage showed the air ambulance was still at the scene after its initial arrival at around 2.45pm.
