M2 crash: Woman in her 20s as police issue appeal | UK | News

A woman in her 20s died in a fatal crash on the M2 on Christmas Eve. Police have appealed for witnesses and urged anyone with useful information or footage of the crash to come forward.

Kent Police said the fatal crash happened shortly before 12.50pm on the London-bound carriageway, close to Medway services at Junction 4. Police said a black Volkswagen T-Roc was reported to have crashed into the central reservation before overturning.

While Serious Collision Investigation Unit officers headed to the area following the collision, the road between Junctions 5 and 4 was closed on the day when Christmas traffic was expected to peak.

National Highways expects part of the highway to remain closed “for some time.”

According to the latest estimates from National Highways, the road is not expected to open between 21.30 and 21.45 in the evening.

In the statement made by the police, the following statements were also included: “The driver, a woman in her 20s from the Faversham area, was declared dead at the scene and her relatives were informed.

“There were no passengers in the car or any other vehicles involved.”

Witnesses, including drivers with dashcam footage, are asked to contact Kent Police via the appeal line on 01622 798538, quoting reference BS/AW/092/25. Dashcam footage can also be uploaded online.

South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Fire and Rescue Service also responded to the incident.

A spokesperson for Kent Fire and Rescue Service told the Express: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service were called at 12.50pm today to reports of a crash involving one vehicle on the M2 towards London, between Junction 5 for Sittingbourne and Junction 4 for Gillingham.

“As well as three fire engines, Kent Police, SECAmb also attended [South East Coast Ambulance Service] and Highways Department officers.”

The tragedy comes as the AA predicts there will be more than 22 million cars on the roads on Christmas Eve.

The RAC said it expected festive getaway trips by car to peak at 4.2 million on Christmas Eve, with normal commuter traffic “likely to be much lighter”.
