A Cheshire Police spokesman said: “The M56 in Cheshire is currently closed westbound following a serious collision near Warrington.

“Shortly after 5pm on Monday, May 18, officers were called to reports of an incident on the M56 near Stretton.

“On arrival, officers discovered a collision between a HGV and two cars. One person suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

“As a result of the collision, the M56 is currently closed westbound between Junction 10, Stretton, and Junction 9, M6, and investigations are ongoing at the scene.

“The closure is expected to continue for several more hours.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information that could assist the investigation is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101 by calling IML-2331295.”
