Machetes used in horror New Year’s Eve attack on iconic Melbourne street

A group wielding machetes and knives seriously injured two men in a horrific attack on one of Melbourne’s most iconic streets on New Year’s Eve.
Police said the two male victims were attacked outside a restaurant on Lygon Street in Carlton by a group of about seven men armed with knives and machetes.
The group soon escaped in cars.
Police were called to the scene near the junction with Argyle Place at around 11.45pm on Wednesday.
A 20-year-old Heidelberg West man and an 18-year-old NSW man were seriously injured in the attack and were taken to hospital.
Anyone with information is asked to come forward.
A Victoria Police spokesman said: “Melbourne Criminal Investigations Unit detectives will investigate whether the incident was a targeted attack.”
No charges were made.
