Mackenzie Shirilla’s father calls her ‘dumb’ in bodycam video from crash arrest

Newly released body camera footage shows Mackenzie Shirilla’s father calling her a “stupid 18-year-old kid,” berating police and demanding they not question him after he was arrested in a crash that killed two people.
Shirilla’s Ohio murder case, which has been called “hell on wheels,” has been brought to the spotlight again following the release of Netflix’s true crime documentary “The Crash.”
Shirilla, now 21, is serving two concurrent 15-year-to-life sentences for killing her boyfriend, Dominic Russo, 20, and their friend Davion Flanagan, 19, after prosecutors say she intentionally crashed her Toyota Camry into a brick building in Strongsville, Ohio, on July 31, 2022.

“I need to talk to my daughter,” Steven Shirilla was heard telling officers. “You’re definitely not allowed to talk to him, this came from the lawyer. He doesn’t want you to talk to him.”
“Amazing, I mean he’s 18,” Steven tells the officer.
When officers told him Mackenzie Shirilla was 18 and could speak for herself, he responded: “Yes, but she’s 18, she’s a stupid girl who just turned 18.”

When his wife, Natalie Shirilla, objected, he added: “All kids are stupid these days.”
Steven Shirilla repeatedly insisted that police were “not allowed” to question his daughter and said he needed to talk to her to understand that she shouldn’t say anything to investigators.
As the officers left the station lobby, they shouted “Don’t ask him any questions!” he shouted.

Police records reviewed by the Fox News Digital program Strongsville officers responded around 6:15 a.m. on July 31, 2022, after a Camry struck the PLIDCO building at 11792 Alameda Drive in Strongsville.

Shirilla, then 17, was removed from the driver’s seat and flown to MetroHealth Medical Center. Russo and Flanagan were pronounced dead after being mechanically removed from the wreckage, records show.

The grand jury presentation reviewed by Fox News Digital said Life360 data showed the vehicle was traveling 90 mph in a 35 mph zone, while Incident Data Recorder information showed the accelerator pedal was fully engaged and the service brake was not applied in the seconds before the devastating crash.

A later police request to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office stated that the deaths were initially classified as accidental, but investigators believed the evidence showed the crash was “an intentional act, not an accident.”

Police asked the medical examiner to conduct a second examination and change the manner of death to homicide.

Prosecutors argued at trial that Shirilla entered the building to end her toxic relationship with Russo and that Flanagan was an unintended victim in the car. Shirilla’s case came to the fore again after Netflix’s new series “The Crash”.
“This was not reckless driving. This was murder. He had a duty and he carried it out meticulously. The duty was death.”
Shirilla argued that the accident was not intentional. Fox News Digital has reached out to Shirilla’s attorneys for comment.

The Catholic Diocese of Cleveland told Fox News Digital: “Catholic school personnel decisions are within the jurisdiction of each school in the Diocese of Cleveland. Due to confidentiality considerations, neither the schools nor the Diocese normally discuss personnel issues publicly.” “However, we can confirm that Mr. Steve Shirilla will not be returning to Mary Queen of Peace School.”
