Madeleine McCann’s younger brother Sean to compete for Scotland in Commonwealth Games
Madeleine McCann’s younger brother Sean McCann has been selected to swim for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow later this month.
McCann, 21, will swim freestyle in the hope of qualifying for Great Britain at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Sun.
McCann was just two years old when her older sister, Madeleine, disappeared from a holiday home while the family was traveling in Portugal in May 2007.
The high-profile case revealed that parents Kate and Gerry McCann left their children asleep in their flat while they went to dinner at a nearby restaurant on May 3, when Madeleine disappeared around 10pm.
Madeleine, who was just three years old when she disappeared, has not been found after years of a worldwide manhunt.
Madeleine’s parents were initially declared suspects by Portuguese authorities, this was later rescinded and German authorities have since declared Christian Brückner as the prime suspect, but no charges have yet been laid.
He has since been presumed dead by German authorities.
Younger brother Sean previously competed in the 400m and 1500m freestyle events for Scotland at the 2023 Commonwealth Youth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.
Sean discovered his passion for swimming when he was eight years old; this was revealed in a statement he made to the Joe Humphries Memorial Trust many years ago.
“I was selected to swim for City of Leicester when I was ten and have since won multiple county titles as well as becoming regional and national champions in my age group,” he said.
Sean is also an open water swimmer who competes on the National Open Water Development Team and has qualified for the 2025 European Open Water Championships.
