Madhava Rao Lived for the Oppressed, Says Nalsar VC

Nizamabad: NALSAR University of Law vice-chancellor Prof. Sri Krishna Devaraya on Sunday said that wherever people were subjected to oppression, standing firmly with the victims and fighting for their rights became the daily mission and way of life of the late senior advocate Gorreppati Madhava Rao.

He was delivering a tribute speech on the first death anniversary of former state president Madhava Rao at the Human Rights Forum held on Sunday.

Prof. Devaraya recalled that the fight waged by civil liberties and human rights organizations against violations in the implementation of laws during the period of united Andhra Pradesh between 1972-73 helped protect many fundamental rights and secure justice for thousands of victims.

He said that personalities like Kannabhiram, Balagopal and Madhava Rao are etched in history for their commitment to human rights and described Madhava Rao as a person of exceptional character. Observing that laws continue to evolve with changing times, he stressed the need for lawyers and young people to constantly study and understand legal developments.

Telangana state bar council member M. Rajender Reddy, Jampala Chandrasekhar Prasad Memorial Trust Trustee Akula Papaiah, Nizamabad Bar Association president Mamilla Sai Reddy, HRF regional president Gaddam Gangulu, HRF secretary Gontyala Ramesh, Madhava Rao’s life partner Meena Sahani and daughter Aditya Madhumita addressed the meeting.

The program was chaired by S. Jeevan Kumar, member of the bi-state coordination committee of the Human Rights Forum.
