Madras High Court nullifies registration of land belonging to Palani math

The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, admitted the appeal filed by Arulmigu Dhandapani Swamigal Madam (mathematics) at Palani and declared a disputed sale deed in favor of certain persons in favor of certain persons in respect of 1.35 acres of land at Palani in Dindigul district.

The Bench of Justice Division CV Karthikeyan and R. Sakthivel allowed the mutt’s preferred appeal against the Single Bench order directing the Sub-Registrar to register the sale deed if the document was otherwise fit. He said that the appellant was not made a party before the Single Bench and the Sub-Registrar did not entertain the objections made before registration.

On appeal, the mathematician said that the Single Court decision was against the law and the facts of the case and could be intervened. He said that the Single Bench should not have allowed the writ petition without hearing all the necessary parties at the acceptance stage.

Mathematics said that it was improper and illegal to file a writ petition for the purpose of registration of mathematics property, without implicating the appellant as a party. The sale deed was made between the parties as if a private foundation property had been sold. The court added that it was improper to allow writ petitions to be filed without the appellant’s knowledge.

Mathematics said the Single Bench should take into account how the petitioner suppressed the fact that the possession of the property was in the hands of Thakkar. Therefore, allowing the registration of the sale deed will create unnecessary trouble.

Meanwhile, Sub-Registrar (in-charge) Justin Manikandan Subramanian, who registered the document, approached the High Court seeking anticipatory bail. He was suspended. He said that he completed the registration process in line with the decision of the Supreme Court. The Registration Department also suspended District Registrar Sasikala.

Judge K. Rajasekar sought response from the Crime Branch-Criminal Investigation Department and posted the matter for hearing till July 17.
