Mahbub, Mujahid Are Suspects In Advocate Killing

Hyderabad: The city police on Sunday detained two “suspect accused” Mahbub Alam Khan and his son Mujahid Ali Khan from the Anwar-Ul-Uloom college group in connection with the gruesome murder of senior Supreme Court advocate and Waqf activist Khaja Moizuddin.
Special teams constituted by police commissioner VC Sajjannar were said to have selected the two suspected accused from Bengaluru and brought them to Abids ACP office in the afternoon. Police have not confirmed the arrest of the suspects; This led to widespread protests by cadres of the All India Majlis-e-Itehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and followers of the slain lawyer; This situation led to a relentless legal struggle against the defendants due to the foundation properties.
The lawyer’s son, Khaja Farhan, who is also a Supreme Court lawyer, said the accused feared a threat to his life and questioned the delay in arresting the perpetrators of his father’s murder. Police sources said that the murder was the work of a supari gang hired by the suspected accused. Police confirmed that after committing the crime, the gang headed towards Shamshabad using the PVNR Highway.
Police said the attackers were seen scouting Moizuddin’s home for about five days. Police sources announced that during the investigation, six people were identified in the CCTV footage, two of whom were in the vehicle and the others were on bicycles.
Investigators suspected that the main conspirators allegedly organized the murder in a way that it would not fall into the police network and hired new faces from other states to implement their plans.
Police identified five people involved in Moizuddin’s murder and recovered the SUV used to knock out the lawyer. The registered owner of the vehicle was reportedly detained at the ACP office. The owner allegedly told investigators that he sold the vehicle six months ago, but the buyers did not re-register the vehicle.
Police alleged that the conspirators planned the murder six months ago by threatening Moizuddin while he was going to pray at the Aliya Mosque in Abids. Five additional teams were formed to arrest the alleged hitmen who apparently escaped from the city.
Farhan stated in his complaint: “The incident clearly appears to be a pre-planned murder attempt… CCTV footage is available and after verification, it was revealed that the incident was committed deliberately (sic).”
Farhan claimed that his father Moizuddin previously had ongoing legal disputes against Mujahid Alam Khan and Mahbub Alam Khan regarding waqf properties and land issues. He claimed that the defendants threatened his father and tried to harm him. Complaints regarding these threats were lodged at various police stations he said and urged the police to take legal action against the father-son duo of Mujahid and Mahbub Alam Khan as per the law.
In Farhan’s complaint, which was recorded at 20.45 on Saturday, the day of the murder, it was stated that at around 5.45 in the morning, his father left home and went swimming as per his daily routine. He was near his vehicle parked at Vijaya Towers in Nampally when a four-wheeler knocked him down at high speed and the victim was thrown about 10 meters away.
Farhan said, “When I heard a loud noise, I immediately went out and found my father lying injured on the road. I immediately took him to Mahaveer Hospital for first aid and later took him to Abids Omni Hospital for treatment.”
Police registered FIR in Crime No. 206 of 2026; initially as a case of attempted murder, rash and negligent driving endangering human life and criminal conspiracy under BNS. This was later changed to murder following Moizuddin’s death.
The FIR stated that “after reviewing the CCTV footage” the intention clearly appeared to be a pre-planned murder. He noted that Moizuddin had ongoing legal disputes against Mujahid Alam Khan and Mahbub Alam Khan regarding Waqf properties and that the suspected accused had threatened him before.
