Major Aldi update in UK town – part of huge £370m project | UK | News

A boss at supermarket giant Aldi has released a positive update about the new store opening in the coming months. Aldi UK national property managing director Jonathan Neale said work on the new supermarket in the North Yorkshire market town of Norton was “progressing well”. The store is part of Aldi’s wider £370 million investment in 16 new sites across the UK. The Germany-based retailer has more than 1,080 stores in the UK and is pursuing expansion plans to increase its store footprint across the country.
Mr Neale said: “At Aldi, we’re committed to making high-quality, affordable food accessible to everyone, which is why we’re continuing to invest in expanding our store network across the UK. Our £370 million investment in new stores this year will help us deliver Aldi’s unrivaled value to even more communities and support local economies through our industry-leading pay to colleagues.”
Accordingly York PressHe added: “We are pleased that construction of the new food store on Commercial Street in Norton is progressing well. We anticipate the store will open in Autumn 2026.”
Other new Aldi stores opening in the coming months are in places including Watford in Hertfordshire, Hoxton in London, Hattersley in Greater Manchester and Balsall Common in the West Midlands.
New Aldi supermarkets will also open in towns including Newport, the Isle of Wight and Port Talbot in south Wales.
The plans are part of Aldi’s long-term ambitions to expand to 1,500 sites across the UK.
In January, Aldi said it hoped to open around 40 new stores in 2026, in line with its long-term growth strategy.
The latest round of new stores follows the opening of its latest store in Salford Quays last month, with the group investing a large amount of cash in new stores this year.
