Electric hot water bottles urgently recalled over fire risk

Electric hot water bottles were urgently recalled due to fire danger.
Safety officials say Southern Arbor electric rechargeable hot water bottles pose a serious hazard because they can overheat.
The Chinese-made bottles were removed from the online sales platform TikTok Shop, where they were offered for sale.

Government regulator the Office for Product Safety and Standards is urging anyone who purchased it to stop using this product.
Officials said the bottles did not have any thermal protection to prevent them from overheating and the bottles would be recalled immediately.
The watchdog said: “The product poses a serious fire risk due to the lack of thermal protection to prevent overheating when subjected to improper use.
“Since there are no instructions provided with the product, it is possible that water should not be added to the product and that it could ignite while plugged in and charging, while the user is not present, causing harm to the consumer and the home.”
The regulator also said that the included adapter had the wrong size pins and did not meet the requirements of the relevant standard.
“The product does not meet the requirements of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 or the Plugs and Sockets (Safety) Regulations 1994,” it said.
The model code of the relevant bottle is QM-01 and its barcode is 69615846554.
“The product has been recalled from end users. Owners are advised to stop using the product immediately and contact the distributor from whom they purchased it and request a correction,” the watchdog said.
In October, a British woman said that an electric rechargeable hot water bottle she bought for £4.60 caught fire the first time she used it.
