Major police update after man dies following stabbing in Leicester | UK | News

Police have issued a major update after a man in his 20s sadly died after being found injured on Leicester’s London Road. Leicestershire Police confirmed that six men, aged between 18 and 33, were arrested on suspicion of murder following the fatal stabbing.

Shortly after 10.45pm on Wednesday, July 22, an officer on patrol in his police car was stopped by the injured man on London Road near Saxby Street. The victim suffered serious injuries to his chest and stomach. East Midlands Ambulance Service attended and he was taken to hospital, where he sadly died in the early hours of Thursday. Following initial investigations, detectives believe the man was stabbed in De Montfort Place, behind a cluster of properties on London Road. An autopsy on Thursday confirmed the man suffered multiple injuries, including three stab wounds, and died as a result of those injuries.

An extensive police operation was launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. After numerous investigations, police teams detained 6 people on suspicion of murder.

One of the suspects was also arrested on suspicion of supplying class B drugs.

A crime scene enclosure is being maintained at an address in London Road while forensic examinations and searches continue.

The exterior scenes at De Montfort Place and London Road have since been removed.

Detective Inspector Lorna Granville, of the East Midlands Special Operations Unit Major Crime Squad, said: “Following the man’s death, specialist trained officers have identified his next of kin and are providing support.

“I would like to express my sincere condolences to them during this difficult time.

“This investigation continues with dedicated teams of police and staff working to understand what happened and the events that led to the injured man being found.

“After extensive investigations, we made many arrests today. While we continue to collect information and evidence about the incident, we will also interview 6 people in custody.

“I would like to thank people who live and work in the area for helping us with information, particularly in relation to the vital CCTV capture of last night.

“If anyone has not yet contacted police but has information or was driving in the area between 10.30pm and 11pm last night, please come forward. Even the smallest detail can help us with our investigation.”

Police have appealed to anyone with information, CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam footage from the area between 10.30pm and 11pm on Wednesday to come forward as investigations continue.
