Man, 18, charged with murder of 17-year-old girl

A man has been accused of murdering a 17-year-old girl and attempting to kill another woman.

Cameron Cheng, 18, of Newbridge, Caerphilly, was also charged with possession of a bladed instrument and will appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on Monday.

Police attended a property on Wheatley Place in Cefn Fforest in the borough of Caerphilly at around 07:15 GMT on Thursday following reports that two people had been seriously injured.

Lainie Williams, 17, of Cefn Fforest, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured 38-year-old woman was also discharged from the hospital.

Gwent Police Deputy Chief Vicki Townsend said: “Whilst we have reached this significant breakthrough in the investigation, our investigations continue.”

Police are appealing for eyewitnesses.
