Man allegedly stabs two, sets fire to home

A young man is fighting for his life after a man allegedly stabbed himself and a woman before setting their house on fire due to suspicion of domestic violence.

Police allege a 15-year-old boy and a 40-year-old woman were stabbed during an argument at a house in Raceview, Ipswich, at around 4.30pm on Sunday.

A 50-year-old man, also from Raceview, started a fire at the house on Cascade Street, about 42 kilometers southwest of Brisbane.

He was arrested shortly after police arrived on the scene and was later charged with two counts of attempted murder (a domestic violence offense) and one count of arson (a domestic violence offense).

The child was taken to Queensland Children’s Hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.

The woman, who suffered non-life-threatening injuries, was taken to Mater Hospital and treated.

“The three individuals involved in this incident are believed to know each other,” QLD Police said in a statement.

The man is expected to appear at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
