Man arrested after boy shot at football pitch during school holidays | UK | News

A 19-year-old man has been arrested following the shooting of a teenage boy at a popular non-league football club.

The 17-year-old was shot in the leg while he was in the pavilion overlooking The Woodlanders FC’s home ground in Huddersfield, West Yorks.

The 17-year-old victim was taken to hospital with a “non-life-threatening” injury to his leg when a gunman opened fire, police said.

The suspect was arrested in Leeds city center later the same evening on suspicion of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

He is currently being held in police custody and continues to be questioned by West Yorkshire officers.

The case is being handled by West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Investigation team and detectives are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the area at the time of the shooting on Wednesday, April 8, to come forward.

Earlier this week, police confirmed that two houses in Huddersfield were raided by officers investigating the assault.

A force spokesman said the HMET team was continuing to progress “multiple investigations” into the shooting.
