Man arrested after five people were hit by car in Nottinghamshire town | UK news
A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after five people were hit by a car in Nottinghamshire city centre, police said.
One person suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital in a critical condition after the incident in Arnold shortly before 1.10am on Saturday, while four others suffered minor injuries.
Nottinghamshire police said a red Vauxhall Astra car was believed to have been driven towards the group following an argument in the city center recently.
Police added that a 40-year-old man was detained and remains in custody.
The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled the scene on foot, police said, adding that counter-terrorism officers were not involved in the investigation and there was “no indication of any ongoing threat to the public.”
DCI Ruby Burrow, who is investigating, said: “We have shared this significant development with the family of the seriously injured man and they are being supported by specialist officers.
“We ask people not to speculate about the circumstances surrounding the incident and to respect the privacy of those involved.
“Our investigation is ongoing and we keep an open mind as these extensive investigations continue.”
