Man arrested after woman stabbed to death in London
Police have confirmed that a 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman was stabbed to death in a “populated area” of north-west London.
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to reports of a stabbing in Pound Lane, Willesden, at around 4pm on Saturday.
Medical teams arriving at the scene found that a 50-year-old woman was injured with a knife.
It was stated that the police officer died at the scene despite all the intervention of the medical teams.
A man believed to be known to the victim was arrested on Saturday evening and detained at a police station in North London, the Met reported.
Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford, from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command, who led the investigation, said: “Firstly, my thoughts are with the victim and his family at this incredibly difficult time.
“This incident occurred in a busy area of Willesden and I would also like to thank the citizens who provided first aid and called emergency services.
“A suspect was arrested a few hours after the incident and remains in custody.
“Our priority is to establish the circumstances surrounding what happened.
“But based on our research so far, there is nothing to suggest there is a greater risk to the public.”
The Met Police added that local officers would be patrolling the area on Sunday.
Detective Superintendent Tony Bellis, of the local force in Brent, said: “An incident of this nature is tragic and deeply worrying and our thoughts are with the victim’s family, friends and everyone affected.
“From what we know at this stage, this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no information to suggest there is a wider risk to the public.
“Citizens will notice increased police presence in the area in the coming days.
“Our officers are there to provide reassurance, engage with the community and respond to any questions or concerns.
“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information that could assist the investigation to speak to authorities in the area or contact us directly.
“Even small pieces of information can be vital.”
