Man arrested for kidnapping after hostage situation at GECU
EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — A 26-year-old man was arrested on a kidnapping charge for allegedly using a GECU employee as a “shield” during a hostage situation in Northeast El Paso on Tuesday, Oct. 21, according to the El Paso Police Department.
Luis Fernando Colomo, 26, was charged with aggravated kidnapping by using as a shield/hostage. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on a $75,000 bond.

On Oct. 21, officers responded to 9435 Dyer St. in reference to a reported kidnapping. It was sent to the GECU branch at.
According to eyewitnesses, Colomo entered the branch “acting nervous.” Witnesses later claimed Colomo told an employee that “gunmen were following him.”
Colomo then grabbed the employee, implied he had a gun, and forced the employee into an office. Colomo later said he planned to use the employee outside the building as a “shield.”
When police asked for help, the employee managed to escape. EPPD said officers quickly located and arrested Colomo.
Prior to this incident, Colomo was arrested on a warrant for assault on a security guard at the Sun Metro Bus Terminal at 9348 Dyer St on Friday, Oct. 10. Colomo was released on personal recognizance bail, EPPD said.
