Man arrested on suspicion of murder after body found in garden

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after a body was found behind a garden.

Earlier this week, emergency services were called to a property in Filton, near Bristol, in the early hours of Thursday morning after a man in his 20s was found seriously injured. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Another man, also in his 20s, was arrested on suspicion of murder on Sunday morning.

Detective Chief Inspector Lucy Edgeworth, of Avon and Somerset Police, said: “The victim’s family are aware of the arrest and our thoughts are with them following this devastating loss.

“Out of respect for his family, we ask people not to speculate about the man’s identity or the general circumstances surrounding his death.

“They continue to grieve privately at this time and we ask that their privacy be respected.”

He said the formal identification process has not yet been completed.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said a forensic post-mortem examination showed the man died after suffering “a number of stab wounds”.

It was found at the back of a garden on Cleve Road, Filton, on Thursday, near a footpath that runs behind houses.

He is believed to have died a few hours earlier on Wednesday.

Ms Edgeworth added: “A huge amount of work has been carried out by the investigation team and specialist officers in recent days.

“This involves reviewing hours of CCTV footage, carrying out forensic inquiries at the scene, carrying out detailed searches of the local area and speaking to potential witnesses.

“This led to the arrest of one man and he remains in custody where he will be questioned under caution.”

Police are appealing for anyone who witnessed what happened between 3pm on Wednesday, April 8 and 3am on Thursday, April 9, or who has CCTV or dashcam footage covering Cleve Road or any nearby street, to call 101 quoting reference number 5226096397.

Independent charity Crimestoppers can also be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111 or via its website.
