Man arrested over deadly Delhi car bomb blast

A man has been arrested in connection with a deadly car bomb attack in Delhi last week that killed eight people and injured 20 others, authorities said.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) said that the car used in the attack is in the possession of the government. Described as a “terrorist incident” It was registered in the name of the arrested suspect.

They accused him of conspiring with the alleged suicide bomber. Officials said the suspect was a resident of Indian-administered Kashmir.

The blast occurred near a metro station close to the Red Fort, one of Delhi’s most important landmarks.

The agency said another vehicle allegedly belonging to the suicide bomber was seized for examination. So far, 73 eyewitnesses, including those injured in the explosion, have been questioned.

The explosion outside the historic castle was the first such explosion in the heavily guarded city since 2011.

The attack on Monday evening took place at 18:52 local time (13:22 GMT) after being hit by a slow-moving vehicle. Stopped at a busy traffic signal and then exploded.

A few hours after the incident, Home Minister Shah confirmed that the explosion took place in a white Hyundai i20.

Footage from the area showed the charred remains of a white car and a number of other gutted vehicles, including an autorickshaw and cycle rickshaws.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the attack a “conspiracy” and his government vowed to bring the “perpetrators, accomplices and sponsors” to justice.

Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi said the news was “extremely heartbreaking”.

On Thursday, police said they were investigating any connection to the latest arrests. Seven men captured by police in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Police said they were also investigating possible links to 2,900 kg of explosives seized recently from a suburb of Delhi.
