Man Beats Wife To Death To Claim ₹1 Cr Insurance

A 30-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her husband in Golthanda village of Tirumalayapalem mandal of Khammam district in the early hours of Friday. The victim, Banothu Meenakshi, was later found hanging from the ceiling of her home in suspicious circumstances.
According to the police, Meenakshi’s husband Shivaji claimed that she died by suicide after hanging himself in a room of their house. However, his relatives claimed that Shivaji had attacked him and later tried to portray the death as suicide.
Meanwhile, a video of Shivaji allegedly physically attacking Meenakshi surfaced on social media and went viral. Shivaji reportedly claimed that the video was old and had nothing to do with his wife’s death.
Meenakshi and Shivaji had been married for nearly 14 years and lived in Golthanda village with their two sons, aged 13 and 9.
The victim’s parents claimed that Shivaji had taken a home loan of Rs 70 lakh to build a house and Meenakshi had insurance cover of Rs 1 crore. They suspected that he planned the murder to pay off the loan using the insurance amount. Tirumalayapalem Sub-Inspector K. Jagdish said that a case has been registered based on the complaint filed by Meenakshi’s parents and investigation is on.
B.Businessman arrested for ₹ 77.5 lakh fraud
Goshamahal police arrested a 54-year-old businessman for duping a city resident of Rs 77.5 lakh by duping him into an electronics business with the promise of high returns. The accused has been identified as Chandan Singh alias Shamji alias Lalaji, a resident of Begum Bazaar. Two others, Pankaj Jain and Ajit Jayantilal Shah, are absconding.
Police said the complainant, Mohammed Zakkeria Shaikh, was encouraged by Singh to invest in the business through his colleague Shaik Omer Javeed. Singh initially gained his trust by returning his earlier investments at a profit. Believing the offer to be genuine, Shaikh transferred ₹77.5 lakh online to Ajit Trading, Mumbai, after being assured of repayment within two days.
After receiving the money, the defendant was not allowed to meet anyone. Singh even moved to Rajasthan to avoid repayment and later threatened the complainant with dire consequences when she demanded her money back.
Based on a complaint filed on April 14, Goshamahal police registered a case under cheating, breach of trust, criminal intimidation and conspiracy sections. Investigators also found suspicious links to hawala transactions. Singh was arrested and produced in court on Thursday and the court remanded him into judicial custody. Further investigation is ongoing.
Driver arrested for running away with ₹9.63 lakh
Sultan Bazaar police on Friday arrested a driver who absconded with more than ₹9.63 lakh which he had collected from companies for bank deposits earlier this week. The accused, Shaik Rahman, 46, of Bowenpally, was nabbed from Kalburagi in Karnataka. Police seized ₹ 9,53,760 in cash, a mobile phone, a blue travel bag and a vehicle key.
The incident took place on May 19, when cash custodians of Cleared Security Services Pvt Ltd, accompanied by an armed man and driver Rahman, collected money from businesses.
The team reached a bank branch in Koti at 2.20pm to deposit the money. While the two depositors entered the bank with some of the money, the armed attacker walked away for a short time, and Rahman allegedly escaped with the vehicle carrying the money bags.
The vehicle was later found abandoned near King Koti district hospital with two money bags missing. Using technical tracking, police tracked Rahman to a guest house near Gulbarga bus stand and arrested him.
TV presenter files complaint over online harassment
Television presenter Vishnu Priya has filed a complaint with the Miyapur police alleging that she is being harassed due to obscene and defamatory content being spread against her on social media.
The police said it had given the names of the people who run the YouTube channels and social media pages and who allegedly tarnished its reputation with objectionable posts. He expressed concern that such content not only affects his public image but also crosses the boundaries of acceptable online behavior.
In his complaint, he stated that statements were made about his account subscriptions and personal matters, which he described as inappropriate and defamatory. He called on the police to take strict legal action against those responsible for disseminating offensive material and attempting to tarnish its image. He also noted that similar derogatory comments were made against other celebrities.
Vishnu Priya submitted details of her social media accounts, screenshots of posts and comments as evidence. Following his complaint, Miyapur police registered a case and launched an investigation to identify the people behind the offensive content. Further investigation is ongoing.
ED Issues Fresh Summons to IAS Officer Amoy Kumar in Bhoodan Land Scam
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued fresh notices directing former Rangareddy collector Amoy Kumar, who is now joint secretary in the animal husbandry and veterinary department, to appear before investigators on May 25 in connection with the alleged Bhoodan land irregularities case in Maheshwaram mandal of Rangareddy district.
Kumar had been summoned earlier in connection with the same issue and was questioned by ED officials over several days in October 2024 and November 2025.
ED is seeking details regarding land transactions, sale deeds, bank accounts and asset details as part of its ongoing money laundering investigation. Authorities were investigating allegations of irregularities in the registration of Bhoodan land parcels in Nagaram, including changes made to records in the BRS government’s Dharani land portal and records containing lands listed under prohibited categories.
The ED was probing allegations of transfer of Bhoodan land to private individuals during Amoy Kumar’s tenure as Rangareddy collector, and investigators suspected large financial transactions linked to the process. Authorities are also examining allegations that prohibited lands were registered and account books were issued following changes made in official land registry records.
Conflict over Disputed Territory of Madhapur; Owner Alleges He Made Threats on Behalf of YS Sharmila
Tension prevailed in Madhapur on Friday following a clash between two groups over a disputed land parcel in Ayyappa Community under the Survey of India limits. Both groups fled the scene before police arrived. A case has been registered at Madhapur police station and investigation is ongoing.
Land owner Pallepu Narsing Rao alleged that he and his family were threatened by some people using APCC chief YS Sharmila’s name. Addressing the media, he alleged that unidentified persons had trespassed into the disputed property, destroyed several sections of the compound wall and damaged CCTV cameras installed on the premises.
According to Narsing Rao, his family purchased 1,200 square meters of land, 600 square meters each registered in the names of Pushpalatha and Chandrakala, from a general power of attorney holder of an association in 1996. He claimed that the land had undergone LRS regularization in 2008 and that government documents, utility bills and rental records were available to establish ownership.
The complainant added that a person identified as Ramarao claimed ownership of the land last year and accused people, including Surender Reddy and Rajagopal Reddy, of allegedly threatening him. He alleged that a hoarding bearing YS Sharmila’s name was placed on the field and he was pressured to visit her office.
Hyderabad: Painter Found Murdered in Jawaharnagar; Woman’s Body Recovered in Huseyinsagar
In two separate incidents, police found the bodies of an unidentified young woman and a middle-aged man from Hussainsagar at a house in Jawaharnagar on Thursday.
Jawaharnagar police recovered the decomposed body of a man, identified as Anil Kumar, aged between 40 and 45, from a house at Gabbilalapet in Donda Thota district.
Police said they called 100 and received information about a body lying suspiciously inside a house. During preliminary investigation, residents of the area informed the police that the deceased was working as a painter and had been staying there with his friends for the last few months. Clues team and canine team personnel examined the scene and found blood stains around the body and head injuries, raising suspicion of foul play. Police suspect that unidentified persons attacked him with sticks about four days ago. The police launched an investigation into the incident upon the complaint of the homeowner Ashok.
Elsewhere, Lake police found the body of an unidentified woman at Hussainsagar Tank Bund around 4 pm. Police suspect that the deceased was between 20 and 25 years old. While the body was taken to the morgue for autopsy, efforts are continuing to identify it.

NRI senior citizen protests land transfer mistake
85-year-old NRI Ravishankar from Shivanagar village called for justice in Sangareddy district by holding a protest outside the Jinnaram Tahsildar office on Friday.
The US-based NRI claimed that 14 guntas of land belonging to him were transferred to another name by mistake and it was not corrected despite repeated objections. He said that he bought the land in Survey No. 172 in 2007 and obtained a passbook, but later came to know that the revenue officials had registered it in the name of someone named Mallamma.
Ravishankar, who returned to India after learning about the mistake, said his visa would expire in June but promised to continue his fight until the land is returned to his name. He put an end to his protest after RDO Rajender responded and promised to resolve the issue within two days.
