A man has been charged with terrorism and other crimes for planning to attack Taylor Swift’s concert in Vienna, Austria, in August 2024. The Austrian, identified only as Beran A, was accused of being a member of a terrorist organisation, making explosives and attempting to purchase illegal weapons.

The 21-year-old is also said to be making Islamic State propaganda. He was arrested before the concert following a tip from the CIA and faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted. Three young people were arrested in connection with the incident in 2024; Among them was a 16-year-old Syrian citizen identified as Mohamed A.

He was given an 18-month suspended prison sentence for the attack by a court in Germany, but was not sentenced under the juvenile penal code.

The indictment states that Beran A was given online instructions on how to make a shrapnel bomb using the explosive triacetone triperoxide (TATP). It was stated that the type of shrapnel bomb was “specific for ISIS attacks”.

It is also thought that he asked ISIS members for advice on how to carry out the bombing.

Investigators also alleged that Beran A was planning to carry out an earlier attack in Dubai in March 2024.

Reports at the time suggested he was involved in a coordinated attack to detonate bombs in three locations simultaneously, but he eventually changed his mind.

During the suspicious attack in Austria, the CIA announced that the suspects were planning to kill many people at the concert.
