Man dead and teenager fighting for life after stabbing at Northampton skate park
A man is dead and a teenage boy is in a critical condition after they were both stabbed at a skate park in Northampton.
Northamptonshire Police launched a murder investigation after emergency services responded to reports that he had been stabbed “during a fight” at the Ringway park in the Briar Hill area on Wednesday.
Two teenage boys, a man and a woman from North Hampton, were arrested in connection with the investigation.
Police said: “Sadly, despite the best efforts of the public and emergency services, a man in his 20s was pronounced dead at the scene and a teenage boy was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries in a critical condition.”
Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison, of the East Midlands special operations unit, said: “This is a tragic incident which has sadly left a man dead and a young boy in a critical condition. Our thoughts are with both families at this difficult time.
“We know that incidents like this can be a cause for concern in the neighborhood and the wider community and I would like to reassure you that we have a dedicated team of officers working quickly to establish what is happening.
“High visibility police patrols will be carried out in the area to reassure the local community and I would encourage anyone with concerns in the area to approach one of our officers who will be happy to help.
“Arrests were made immediately and investigations continue to progress rapidly, but I would still appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information who has not yet come forward to do so.”
Officers said a police cordon was expected to remain in the park while the investigation continued and that many roads had been affected by the incident and people should avoid the area as much as possible.
“In addition to house-to-house investigations, an increased police presence will also remain in the area, including high-visibility patrols to reassure and provide support to the community,” the force said.
