Man dies after falling overboard from vessel off UK’s south coast

A man has died after falling overboard from a ship near the southern coastal town of Newhaven, police said.
The man fell from the boat late on Sunday morning, prompting an emergency call from HM Coastguard.
Sussex Police said in a statement that a body was pulled from the sea. Investigations into the incident are continuing.
The man was identified and his relatives were informed.
This follows confirmation by the Coast Guard earlier in the day that a person had fallen overboard.
HM Coastguard told local media that reports of the incident were received at 10:19am.
“RNLI lifeboats from Shoreham and Newhaven were dispatched to search, along with an HM Coastguard rescue helicopter, a Coastguard fixed-wing aircraft and two nearby vessels,” the statement said.
Sussex Police said: “At 11.40am on Sunday 30 November, HM Coastguard notified police that a man had been reported overboard from a vessel off the coast of Newhaven.
“A search was carried out under the leadership of the Coast Guard and a body was removed from the sea.
“The man has been identified and his relatives have been informed. Our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
“Investigations are ongoing. No further details are available at this stage.”
