Man dies and teen in critical condition after ‘stabbing’ | UK | News

A murder investigation has been launched following the death of a man in Northampton on Wednesday (February 18). Northamptonshire Police said emergency services were called to a skate park in Briar Hill, Ringway, following reports that two men had been stabbed during “an argument in the park”.

A man in his 20s was sadly pronounced dead at the scene, despite the best efforts of the public and emergency services; A young boy was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. Police said he was in critical condition. Police established a cordon in the park following the incident and the cordon is expected to remain in place while the investigation continues.

The public was asked to avoid the area and many roads were said to be affected by the incident.

Four people have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in custody, police said, adding that they included two young boys, a man and a woman, all from Northampton.

The force said local residents will see an increased police presence in the area, including high-visibility patrols, to reassure and provide support to the community, and house-to-house investigations are continuing.

Detective Chief Inspector Torie Harrison, Senior Investigating Officer from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, said: “This is a tragic incident in which a man has sadly lost his life and a young boy is in a critical condition. Our thoughts are with both families at this difficult time.

“We know that incidents like this can be a cause for concern in the neighborhood and the wider community and I would like to reassure you that we have a dedicated team of officers working quickly to establish what is happening.

“High visibility police patrols will be carried out in the area to reassure the local community and I would encourage anyone with concerns in the area to approach one of our officers who will be happy to help.

“Arrests were made immediately and investigations continue to progress rapidly, but I would still appeal for any witnesses or anyone with information that has not yet come forward to do so.”
