Man dies in light plane crash at Sherburn in Elmet

A 70-year-old man died after a light aircraft crashed at an airfield near Sherburn in Elmet.

North Yorkshire Police said emergency services were called to Sherburn Aero Club just before 1pm GMT.

The small plane crashed on the runway and the pilot, from the Leeds area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police added that he was believed to have been flying alone.
