Wichita police: Man experiencing homelessness died after falling on the road and being hit by a car

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A man experiencing homelessness died after being struck by a car in West Wichita early Sunday morning.

Just before 1:30 a.m., officers with the Wichita Police Department responded to a report of a man in the 4800 block of W. Central Ave.

Police officers spoke with the driver and told them he had hit a person with his vehicle. Police said he remained at the scene and was cooperating with investigators.

Investigators said the man was walking on the sidewalk when he fell into the roadway and remained there for an unknown amount of time. The driver did not see the man and hit him. Impairment is not suspected.

Teenager arrested after hours-long shootout with police

The victim, 59-year-old Eugene Favart, was taken to a local hospital and died a short time later.

The investigation continues.
