Man fatally shot in suspected targeted attack

A manhunt is underway after a 41-year-old man died from a gunshot wound in a suspected targeted attack.

Emergency services were called to the Slacks Creek address in Brisbane’s south at around 1.14am on Friday and found a seriously injured man outside the property.

Officers and paramedics provided medical assistance but the man was pronounced dead on arrival at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

“Police are confident this was a targeted attack and there is no ongoing threat to the public,” Acting Detective Inspector Jason Kitto told reporters. he said.

The victim was known to police and the people involved were believed to know each other, so he said it was “not a random attack” but could not say whether it was gang-related.

It was the second fatal shooting south of Brisbane in as many days, but is not believed to be related to the shooting death of a 35-year-old man on Tuesday in a Beenleigh suburban park 10km away.

Paul Tagirara, 22, was arrested after he allegedly tried to evade police by hiding in a pond near a popular dog park following Tuesday’s shooting.

Det Kitto said police dealt with any firearms crime as a priority and were concerned with removing guns from the streets.

A crime scene was declared in Slacks Creek on Friday as police hunted down the attacker by knocking on doors in the area.

Det Kitto said detectives wanted to speak to a number of people who left the Slacks Creek scene before police arrived.

He appealed for anyone with dashcam footage or other information to contact police.
