Man Finds Forgotten Powerball Ticket in His Wallet and Learns He Spent 3 Months Carrying Around a Winner

An Ohio man recently learned he won big money on a lottery ticket he purchased in September

However, John completely forgot about this after putting the ticket in his pocket and only rediscovered it in the last week of the year.
Finding the ticket, John decided to check the numbers to see if he had won anything.
To do so, he visited Tom’s Carry Out in Powhatan Point and had a clerk scan the ticket while he purchased some ice, according to lottery officials.
That’s when John got a shocking surprise: Because the ticket matched four out of five white balls, as well as the Powerball, the ticket was awarded a $50,000 prize.
As fate would have it, No one won the estimated $127 million jackpot in the September 24 drawing,

ASL chief executive Sharon Strong said in a statement that the winner “took the time to seek legal and financial advice” as recommended by lottery officials before coming forward.
“We are proud to celebrate this moment not only for our Arkansas winner and Murphy USA, the Arkansas-based company that sold the winning ticket, but also for the positive impact this historic jackpot will have on our state and our mission to raise funds for in-state scholarships,” Strong said.

Powerball drawings take place every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 PM ET. Tickets are $2 each.
