Man in 20s dies after serious multi-vehicle crash | UK | News

A man in his 20s has died following a serious multi-vehicle collision on a busy UK road.

Leicestershire Police are continuing to investigate a fatal multi-vehicle collision on the A46 in Leicestershire on Tuesday evening (February 17).

Police said the incident between a lorry, a Land Rover Defender, a Kia Ceed, a Volkswagen Sharan and a Volkswagen Transporter happened shortly after 6pm on the south-west carriageway towards the M1, just before the Beaumont Leys/Anstey junction.

While the driver of the Land Rover, who was in his 20s, was determined to have died at the scene, a man in his 30s who was a passenger in the Sharan was also taken to hospital and treated.

Police said the 53-year-old truck driver was arrested and held in custody on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The north-east carriageway has reopened, but the south-west carriageway is expected to remain closed for most of Wednesday to allow repairs.

Detective Sergeant Jack Cornick, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Our investigation to establish what happened is ongoing and I would like to speak to anyone who can help.” he said.

Sgt Cornick said he wanted to speak to anyone traveling on both roads at the time. He said he was particularly interested in talking to anyone with a dashcam.

He asked anyone who witnessed the collision or had any prior sightings of any of the vehicles involved to get in touch.

“Any information or footage you can provide may assist our ongoing investigations.”
