Chikkamagaluru Police arrested two persons wanted in theft cases and seized valuables worth Rs 32 lakh from them. The arrested are said to be part of the infamous Chaddi Gang, known for theft cases reported in different parts of the state.
Chikkamagaluru SP Vikram Amathe on Saturday, October 25, 2025, informed the media that a special team has been constituted under the leadership of Chikkamagaluru Town Police Inspector Abhay following a case of theft that took place in the town on June 20 this year. Unidentified people escaped with 495 grams of gold jewelry and 1 kilo of silverware.

After several days of sustained efforts, the police managed to trace two of the gang to Maharashtra. They arrested Pappu Pawar (40) and Mangesh Ankush (23), natives of Jalna district of Maharashtra. The police took valuables from them. The suspects are said to have confessed to committing similar crimes in Chikkamagaluru as well as in Ballari, Gadag and Chitradurga districts.
The SP said that the group called Chaddi Gang was known for theft cases. Chikkamagaluru Police successfully nabbed two members of the gang. “Those who were detained were referred to the courthouse. There are 6 more people in the team. Our police continues to work to capture them.”
