Man jailed for raping woman, 18, after night out

The man who sexually assaulted and raped an 18-year-old woman at his friend’s house after a night out was jailed.
Chester Crown Court heard Declan Marno, 24, attacked the teenager on March 28, 2025 and she collapsed during the ordeal.
Marno, from Chester, was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting both sexual assault and rape at a previous hearing in February.
He was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
Cheshire Police said the victim objected to Marno’s behavior the morning after the attack and said she remembered what he had done to her.
Marno admitted his actions and was arrested and taken into custody.
But he later gave officers a pre-written statement denying any wrongdoing and refused to answer any of their questions.
Despite this, he later pleaded guilty at his first trial.
‘Selfish desires’
Detective Constable Emma Flanagan said: “I can’t imagine how traumatic this experience would have been for the victim, a young woman who enjoyed a night out in the city center surrounded by people she believed she could trust to look after her.
“Declan Marno abused that trust and acted on his own selfish desires in pursuit of sexual gratification, preying on her at her most vulnerable and not once considering her feelings, wishes or consent.”
“Unfortunately, nothing can be done to undo what happened, hopefully Marno will now be held accountable for his actions and put behind bars for the next six years so the victim can begin the healing process.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to thank him for the courage and strength he showed throughout the entire investigation.”
