Man killed in targeted shooting as fire alarm triggers mass evacuation
A man has been shot dead in an attack on a suburban apartment complex in Melbourne’s east.
Residents reported hearing a “loud explosion” at the Box Hill apartment building on Whitehorse Road just before 2 a.m. Thursday.
A fire alarm later triggered the evacuation of dozens of residents.
It is believed that a fight broke out in an apartment on the 11th floor.
The man died at the scene.
Local resident Jessica Rodarowe told Nine News it was a frightening situation.
“We’ve been out for about four hours. They didn’t tell us much, just the worst happened. I was sleeping when the fire alarm went off,” he said.
A crime scene was established early Thursday morning and homicide detectives continue to work at the scene.
Police confirmed they were treating the incident as a targeted attack.
