For the family of Kevin Bacon, a top student and talented hairdresser, Christmas will forever be remembered with tragedy and devastation. The 25-year-old was reported missing after she failed to show up for a family breakfast on Christmas Day 2019.
After his disappearance was reported to the police, Kevin’s roommate revealed that he went to meet a man from Grindr on Christmas Eve. This was the beginning of a truly terrifying holiday tale for the Bacon family. Police officers would go on to discover a crime scene for which nothing could prepare them.
As reported by MirrorKevin was discovered at the Michigan home of Mark Latunski, who was 50 at the time. The killer was known to local police, and there were reports that some of his previous Grindr daters had been forced to flee his home during “basement bondage sessions”.
But Kevin wasn’t lucky enough to escape Latunski. The young man, then 25 years old, was found brutally murdered in a secret room, his naked body hanging upside down from the ceiling.
Latunski later admitted to stabbing Kevin, slitting his throat, and then hanging him from the rafters with a rope. The perverted killer also said he cut off part of Kevin’s genitals and ate them.
Kevin’s father said: “Obviously he got into something he wasn’t prepared for. We all make mistakes. Hearing the details is heartbreaking and we are at a loss.”
According to the Washington Post, one of Latunski’s previous Grindr dates called 911 after running away from his home. The victim jumped the fence in the middle of the night after Latunski tried to restrain him using leather straps and a chain around his ankle.
Another man, wearing only a leather skirt, fled the killer’s home before being chased by Latunski. None of the men pressed charges, explaining that their sexual activity with Latunski was consensual and that they “scared” him.
In September 2022, just weeks before a jury trial was set to begin, Latunski, then 53, admitted to killing and mutilating Kevin Bacon and was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on first-degree murder charges. He was also sentenced to 11 months’ concurrent imprisonment for the exhumation and dismemberment of a body.
Before Latunski’s sentencing in December 2022, a statement from Kevin’s mother, Pamela, was read in court. He said Christmas will “never be the same” for his family.
The statement read: “Our world has been shattered. Even though we have such wonderful memories of our son, our lives will never be the same and neither will our family. I don’t understand why anyone would want to harm our son in such a horrific and incredible way.”
“Christmas will never be the same for our family now that you took our son away from us. Even if we finally get justice for Kevin, it still isn’t enough and you still keep living and doing things because a pig like you can never have regrets.”
The statement continued: “In your sick, twisted mind you probably think you’ve done nothing wrong, but in reality you’ve taken our world away.” “This Christmas, I hope you suffer like we do. I hope you feel pain because you’re all alone for all the years to come.”
