Man taunts campus Turning Point USA table, says Kirk got shot ‘for a reason’

University of New Mexico (UNM) police arrested a man who allegedly tried to steal Turning Point USA signs during a tabletop event on campus, saying “Kirk was shot in the neck for some reason,” referring to slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk.

In a Thursday post from Frontlines TPUSA, Turning Point USA’s official “on-the-ground national broadcast” account, a video of the incident was shared on the former Twitter account, X, and read: “WATCH: ‘Kirk was shot in the neck for no reason.’ University of New Mexico police arrested a student who tried to steal signs from the Turning Point USA student table event. “The student resisted arrest but was eventually taken into custody.”

In video of the incident, a masked man argues with people at the Turning Point USA table, objecting to the buttons criticizing socialism. At one point, when challenged to discuss his views, the man said: “You’re doing Kirk’s bullshit… Kirk got shot in the neck for a reason.”

“Wow,” one woman replied. “This is not nice. Charlie was a father and a husband.”

“So do many socialists,” he replied.

The man added that Kirk encouraged violence before taking the Turning Point USA signs. The Turning Point USA video has been edited, so it’s unclear what happened before he was seen being arrested by campus police.

“The University of New Mexico is firmly committed to the principles of free expression and values ​​its role as a space for public debate, a marketplace of ideas, and a place to test and challenge competing perspectives and ideas,” Ben Cloutier, managing director of strategic communications at the University of New Mexico, said in a statement to Fox News Digital.

Cloutier added that the university is “committed to protecting constitutionally protected expression while ensuring the safety of our campus community.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to the University of New Mexico Turning Point USA chapter and the University of New Mexico Police for comment.

A memorial service for Kirk was held on the university campus on September 13.

The 31-year-old co-founder and CEO of Turning Point USA was shot and killed while speaking at Utah Valley University on September 10 during his American Comeback Tour.

Since Kirk’s death, requests for new TPUSA chapters have increased across the country.

More than 120,000 students have received information about the opening of new high school and college majors in the weeks since Kirk’s assassination, according to the organization.
