Manchester boy, 16, dies after being hit by car | UK | News

The name of the teenager who died after being hit by a car was given as his distraught mother remembered her “special” son. Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a collision in Kingsway, Manchester, at around 6.40pm on January 2.

Police said the driver of a Seat Ibiza was driving on Kingsway when he collided with a pedestrian walking across the road. The pedestrian was a 16-year-old boy who was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Despite all the efforts of the emergency services, unfortunately he died.

Police said an 18-year-old man was arrested and released on bail, and investigations are ongoing.

In a tribute released by police on Sunday, his mother said: “My son Alfie was always our special child with the biggest heart.

“Everyone who knew him always told me I had the best kid, he knew how proud I was of him.

“He was everyone’s best friend, losing him tore our family apart.

“We had made so many plans this year, he loved gaming and motorcycles and had already started saving money to buy his first bike. I’ll be lost forever without him.”

Alfie’s mother said in a public Facebook post on Saturday that she was “completely broken”. Manchester Evening News reports.

GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses and anyone with information to come forward.

Constable Antrobus from the unit said earlier on Sunday: “This is a tragic incident and my thoughts are first and foremost with the family of the young boy who sadly lost his life.

“They are being supported by specialist staff and we ask that their privacy be respected while they suffer.

“We know local people will also be shocked and upset to hear of this incident, but we would appeal to anyone with information or who was in the area when the incident occurred to come forward. This includes anyone who witnessed the incident or has CCTV footage.”

Witnesses and anyone with dashcam, CCTV or doorbell footage are asked to contact police on 0161 856 4741, quoting log 2622 of 02/01/2026.

They can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
