Manslaughter charge laid over laneway drug overdose

A fatal overdose in an inner-city alley has led to manslaughter charges against a man who allegedly administered the drug.

The 37-year-old man was arrested at an address in Parramatta on Thursday following a months-long police investigation.

It comes after emergency services found a 45-year-old man unconscious on Parker Lane in Haymarket, Sydney, at around 5.20pm on April 1.

The person, who was given first aid by the medical teams arriving at the scene, was taken to the hospital in serious condition. More than two weeks later, on April 19, police were notified that the man had died.

After extensive investigations, investigators obtained a search warrant and arrested the 37-year-old.

Police will claim in court that he caused the fatal overdose.

The man was taken to Parramatta Police Station where he was charged with manslaughter.

He will appear in Parramatta Local Court on Friday.
