Infant’s Charred Body Found After Long Search in Bus Wreck

Nellore: Rescuers recovered the burnt remains of a five-month-old baby named Ambati Leo from the bus crash site near Markapuram after an extensive search of the wreckage, officials said on Thursday.
The baby’s body was the last to be tracked down, with teams combing through charred rubble, twisted metal and luggage for hours before finding the remains.
The accident claimed the lives of many people, including a six-year-old girl, and added to the pain of the affected families.
Regional Medical and Health Officer Dr. T. Venkateswarlu said forensic experts from Guntur Regional Forensic Laboratory were conducting post-mortem examinations on the burnt bodies until late in the evening. He said key bone samples, including the femur and sternum, were collected to aid identification.
“These samples will help create biological profiling, identification and determine the exact cause of death,” he said.
Authorities also took blood samples from relatives for DNA matching, which was expected to take time due to the condition of the remains.
Officials said that the bodies will be handed over to the families only after receiving forensic approval and that necessary arrangements have been made to transport the remains to their hometowns.
