Tips and race-by-race guide for Kembla Grange (Illawarra track) on Tuesday
John Schell
Choices based on a good piece.
race 1
1. Above the Law He appeared in all six starts, including five second and one third finishes. Harry Angel’s son returned from the spell three times while under the care of Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott. He makes his first start for the Mitchell Beer and George Carpenter stable after a second at Warwick Farm when he was last bred. From a good draw he should race quickly and take plenty of beatings. 7. Solid After a spell he progressed at the Hawkesbury and fought fairly to finish third behind Superata. It should be better for this run and is worth another shot. 3. Demmo Dermis He was starting his second race as he continued his spell with second place at the Hawkesbury and has since followed up with a close-up fifth at the same track. It may be there again. 5. Mako He followed the field home in the same race that Solid raced last time, but before that he wasn’t too far from Wyong. He recently made an attempt to keep up with his goal.
How to play: Above the Law to Win.
race 2
3. Wow Nellie He made just two starts and improved on his second start when he was second at Newcastle’s Beaumont circuit before being wowed. For this first mission he made two barrier trials, at Warwick Farm and a third at Wyong. We expect bold freshness. 6. Populism He also made two starts at Wyong and finished fourth on his debut, before finishing fifth at the same track on his second start and finishing third at the Gosford trial. He could put that aside. 1. Hold My Drink He ran well after a spell at Sapphire Coast to finish second, then backed that up with a fifth place at the same track as the favourite. 7. Satono Jasmine He was down the track on his debut at the Beaumont track and after two tries he stays on here and can handle it.
How to play: Wow, may Nellie win.
race 3
4. Tequisoda He has a good track record with wins and four placings from five starts and his only failure was at Randwick in December before being spelled out. He has had two trials to prepare for this ongoing run and was last seen up close at Wyong. 2. Call Me Mojo He restarted on Good Friday after a long lay-off in Canberra and did his job well to finish as favourite. Another advance demonstration is expected. 1. King Nic He looks set to go back to the top after coming back from a spell three times. 6. Lawless Lucy He got a good win at Newcastle two weeks ago and he has claims.
How to play: To win Tekisoda.
race 4
2.Ishikari He won in good style at Orange two starts ago and was then taken to Randwick for the Speedway and again led to a strong score. He dictated and was never going to lose any of these events and he can do the same here. 1.Audenzia consistent and was placed at Kembla Grange last time out. 6. Spiritualist He is Nowra’s latest starter and could emerge again. 5.Benera He comes here following his win over the four-horse field in Canberra.
How to play: Ishikari will win.
race 5
4.Chix He showed his share of talent with two wins from four starts. He won for the first time at Newcastle’s Beaumont circuit in December before failing at Randwick. He was fresh from then as he scored at Kembla Grange and followed that up with a fifth at Newcastle. 7. Miss Capitale He has two wins and two seconds from six starts and was not far behind in the last sixth start at Wyong. 9. Gladstone Grande He failed the shot last time, but he wasn’t far off before that and can improve. 2. Laurel Hill is an end-start locator that can stand out.
How to play: Chix wins.
race 6
4. Zounaka continues after a spell and has a good overall record with two wins at Kembla Grange and Wyong as well as four second places. His form at the end of his final campaign at the end of last year was solid, with qualifying efforts in urban races just four behind him. In preparation for this return, he was given two trials and performed well in each. Ideally drawn at the second door. 1.Chicama He broke his maiden at Warwick Farm last October and failed to fire in two more city races before being wowed. HE
He also had two trials to prepare for his return to racing. 2.Divo He showed his potential in his career with one win and three second places, including two seconds in urban races. He won a Gosford trial and ran a close fifth in another race at Wyong to prepare for this. 5.Peleus He ran well when fourth at Rosehill before breaking through with a strong late start win at Hawkesbury.
Provincial Maiden company.
How to play: Zounaka in both directions.
