Marjorie Taylor Greene apologizes for participating in ‘toxic politics’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., apologized during a CNN interview on Sunday for participating in “toxic politics” when pressed about speaking out against threats made against her following her fight with President Donald Trump.

“Obviously, any threat to your security is completely unacceptable, but we’ve seen these kinds of attacks or criticism from the president of other people. This is not new. And, respectfully, I didn’t hear you talk about this until it was directed at you,” CNN host Dana Bash said during “State of the Union.”

Greene said the criticism was “fair.”

Greene published on social media He wrote about the threats on Saturday, writing: “Private security firms are being contacted with warnings for my safety as a hotbed of threats against me is fueled and instigated by the most powerful man in the world.”

Greene later apologized and said toxic policies were very bad for the country.

“I would like to humbly say that I regret participating in toxic politics. It’s very bad for our country and it’s been something that I’ve thought about a lot, especially since Charlie Kirk was assassinated; we, I’m solely responsible for myself and my own words and actions, and I’m committed and I’ve been working hard on that lately to get the knives down on politics,” he said.

He said he wants to see people be kind to each other and added that Americans have more in common than they have differences.

Bash pointed out specific examples, such as “Facebook post removed from 2020, Holding a gun next to the Squad, encouraging people to attack socialists, liking a tweet from someone calling for the execution of Nancy Pelosi and former President Obama.”

“I raised this issue in 2021, and of course I never want to harm anyone or cause anything bad, so it was addressed then as well. And I stand by my words. I said it then and I stand by my words today. I think America needs to come together and end all the toxic, dangerous rhetoric and division. And I’m leading that way by my example. And I hope President Trump can do the same,” Greene said.

Trump called Greene a “traitor” on Saturday and also announced he was dropping his support for Greene.

The Republican lawmaker has been a strong supporter of the president since entering Congress, but broke with him over the disclosure of the Epstein files and some of his administration’s foreign policies.
