Mark Kelly proudly backs Team Mexico in World Cup after barely mentioning U.S. men’s team

What team is U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D-Az) on?

Particularly judging by his social media feed on Sunday, it appears Kelly may have a conflict of interest based on how patriotic he feels toward Team Mexico in its World Cup game against England.

“Lots of people in Tucson to watch Mexico play England. Tucson and La Rosa sure know how to run the World Cup!” Kelly boasted on Twitter, where she proudly shared photos of herself wearing a Team Mexico jersey and smiling from ear to ear.

You’ll never guess who just mentioned the US men’s team on Twitter or Facebook.

Yes, Senator Mark Kelly.

Since you’re on the list, you’ll be able to guess who hasn’t been to a Team USA watch party or hasn’t worn a Team USA jersey at a party based on their social media feed. You’re right again, Mark Kelly. If so, Kelly certainly didn’t boast about it like he did on Sunday, when England broke into enemy territory and sent the Mexicans on holiday to Cancun with a 3-2 win.

Kelly’s only mention of Team USA was on June 25, when he admitted on Twitter that he wasn’t a football fan. “I watch the NFL, the NBA, a little bit of Major League Baseball, hockey and the UFC, but football was never my thing,” the former astronaut said.

Understandable.

Kelly said afterward that he plans to “hopefully” watch the U.S. men’s team beat Türkiye.

Hopefully? Talk about lukewarm confidence.

Ten days later, Kelly arrived at Team Mexico’s viewing party exuding confidence with a big smile on her face. Look how proud and confident Mark is at the party, taking selfies and rallying Mexican fans as he prepares for this historic moment against England.

This is how quickly a US senator who doesn’t care about football, and certainly doesn’t care about US football, jumped on the Mexican bandwagon. Let that sink in.
