Martin Scorsese’s daughter makes Fox Nation directorial debut

Francesca Scorsese is following in her legendary father’s footsteps and making her directorial debut at Fox Nation with the episode “Martin Scorsese Presents: The Saints.”
Every episode of “Saints” Starting with St. Patrick on November 16, it will focus on individuals who have shaped Christianity around the world.
A young Scorsese, a budding filmmaker and social media influencer, directed the story of the newly canonized Saint Carlo Acutis, nicknamed “God’s Influencer.” This will be the last episode of the second season to air in December, with more episodes expected to air next Easter.
Francesca Scorsese discussed the episode on Monday after its second season Your Dad’s Fox Nation series premieres at the Whitby Hotel in midtown Manhattan. During a candid conversation with Martin Scorsese and executive producer Matti Leshem, the 25-year-old actor said his father’s faith and bedtime Bible stories inspired his passion to tell such an important story.

“I was raised as a Christian and I was baptized and confirmed. I took Communion and stuff like that. And I think I was a lot more religious when I was younger. I prayed every night,” he said.
“He used to read the Bible to me,” she continued, referring to her father. “It was like a bedtime story.”
Martin Scorsese informed the crowd that these were versions of the Bible specifically for children, and eventually his curious daughter began asking questions he couldn’t answer.

Francesca boasts too much 400,000 followers On TikTok, Saint Carlo explained that Acutis’ use of technology and the internet fueled his desire to tell his story.
“He spread his faith through his websites, and social media is a very scary place and can be very dark, you know? And I think it’s interesting that he kind of uses that as a way to do good and inspire,” she said.
“This was his way of spreading his faith and inspiring others,” he continued. “I thought it was really beautiful.”
Francesca Scorsese spent a month in Rome to shoot the episode and admitted that working with her iconic father was “a little scary.”
“I felt like it was kind of homework. At the end of the day, I had to turn it in and see if I got good feedback,” he said.
“I did a lot of preparation. I scripted everything,” he continued. “It was really nice to see all of this come to light and actually be seen on the screen in front of me.”

Francesca said it wasn’t always easy working with her father, who was not on the Italian set but checked in regularly via FaceTime, and showing him the episode for the first time increased her anxiety.
“I kept looking at him. He was sitting in the back…like in the shadows,” he said. “It was very bad.”

Martin Scorsese agreed with his daughter and said that showing a movie for the first time is always a “terrifying experience.” Luckily for everyone involved, the Academy Award-winning director was more than pleased with his daughter’s performance. Fox Nation’s directorial debut.
“There’s something meditative about the Carlo episode. Especially in the second half. I was delighted to see how specifically you framed the characters at this point. It wasn’t crazy in any way,” he told Francesca.
