A Maryland man allegedly stole a 3-month-old kitten from a pet store, carried it to a nearby bank and asked an employee to hold the animal, then handed the teller a note demanding cash, according to police and an official. local cat rescue.

Stephanie Stullich of the Beltsville Community Cats rescue said she received a frantic call from pet store employees around 10:30 a.m. informing her that Magnolia had been taken from the adoption lot.

“I immediately saw all these police cars and thought, ‘Wow, that’s a great reaction for a stolen cat,'” Stullich told NBC Washington. “But then I realized they all went to the bank.”
According to Stullich, officers then said the suspect entered the bank with the Magnolia in his hand and then asked an employee, “Can you hold this?” He said he asked. He then allegedly handed a teller a note demanding cash.
Prince George’s County police confirmed they detained a man at the bank.

Pet Supplies Plus manager Aaron Kurkowski told NBC Washington that the suspect had been visiting the store nearly every day for the past few weeks and routinely went directly to Magnolia.
“He went right up to her and ran outside,” Kurkowski said.
The rescue team later shared on Facebook that Magnolia was safely rescued after she said she bonded with the bank manager during the ordeal.
“The robbery was unsuccessful, the suspect was arrested, and Magnolia was found safe and sound,” the organization wrote.

The rescue said Magnolia is ready for adoption and describes the 3-month-old tuxedo cat as affectionate and playful, adding that he loves to cuddle, adventure and follow people around him. Because he is so social and energetic, the group recommends taking him into a home with another young, playful cat or one of the other cats.
“He’s looking for a loving, law-abiding citizen at heart,” Stullich told NBC Washington.
