Massive Crowds Gather for VD Satheesan Govt Swearing-In

Thiruvananthapuram: All roads in Kerala’s capital Thiruvananthapuram lead to the Central Stadium, where the swearing-in ceremony of the Congress-led UDF Government will be held at 10 am.

Governor Rajendra Viswanath Arlekar will fulfill the oath of office and secrecy of the new Cabinet.

More than 50,000 passes were issued for the event and a huge stage was set up for Prime Minister-designate VD Satheeshan and his 20-member Cabinet. Long queues formed outside the stadium’s four entry points as hundreds of people waited to get in.
UDF workers from every corner of Kerala, from Kasargod to Thiruvananthapuram and Ernakulam to Idukki, gathered in the state capital for the occasion.

The enthusiasm in the air is the same as that seen outside counting centers on May 4 when the UDF came to power with a landslide victory, winning 102 of the 140 seats in the Kerala Assembly. Workers gather outside the stadium in large numbers as initial entry is limited to pass holders.

Muslim League leader and ministerial candidate KM Shaji said, “We have achieved an unprecedented victory and this is reflected in the meeting here. We are happy but it is also a huge responsibility and challenge.”

Congress junior ministerial candidate Roji M. John, who is likely to hold the higher education portfolio, also said that Team UDF will meet the expectations of the people of Kerala.
