Massive fire erupts at Opal Paper Mill as almost 100 firefighters fight the flames in Sydney’s east
Dozens of firefighters are struggling to include a giant fire in a paper factory east of Sydney, and people were invited to avoid the region.
Emergency intervention teams on Friday after 13:00 after the Botanic Road in Matraville Opal Paper Factory ran.
More than 80 firefighters remain at the scene that tries to extinguish the fire fed with strong winds.
The fire led to a secondary fire in an industrial complex on the Pentia Boulevard, where seven parked vehicles were damaged.
Police evacuates nearby businesses and houses at the scene.
An NSW police spokesman, “ Emergency services trying to include fire, police calls people to avoid the region because of the big smoke, ” he said.
“ Drivers are also called to avoid the region because the localized traffic deflection is in force. ‘
Air photographs showed the covered scene in the clouds of big black smoke.
Firefighters are currently fighting a big fire at the Opal Paper Factory in Matraville.
Sydneysides, they are asked to avoid the area covered with thick smoke.
Shock natives described the scenes as scary.
A resident told The Daily Telegraph, “ “ was a perfect day, then suddenly everywhere black smoke and very high explosions, ” he said.
