Wrexham’s owners witness narrow FA Cup defeat to Chelsea in a dramatic match
The players have witnessed some spectacular moments since their $2.5 million acquisition in 2021 changed the fortunes of the once-lucky Welsh club. The home fans were thrilled in the 18th minute when Sam Smith chased down Callum Doyle’s long ball and slotted past Robert Sanchez to put Wrexham ahead.
There were more chances to extend the lead, but Chelsea fortuitously equalized before the break.
George Thomason denied Garnacho the equalizer as he slotted his goal-bound effort off the line. However, his shot hit goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo’s back and bounced into the net.
Wrexham took the lead for a second time in the 78th when Doyle cleverly curled a heel kick from Josh Windass’ shot.

Four minutes later the game was tied again; Josh Acheampong fired powerfully past Okonkwo from close range.
George Dobson’s red card in extra time meant Wrexham had to play extra time with 10 men, and Chelsea took advantage with Garnacho’s goal in the 96th minute.
