Matt Beard left a ‘legacy’ at Liverpool, says Reds boss Gareth Taylor

Men’s Team Manager Arne Slot said Beard “doing great things for this football club”.

“I think Melwood staff and everyone who works with him loved him – and this is probably a more important legacy than the trophies you won to leave behind.”

“The person you are always is more important than you earn. But in the case, both things are combined: very successful as a manager and a great person.

“Not only to get all the respect it deserves in Liverpool, but also around women’s football.”

Liverpool Women’s General Manager Andy O’Myle paid the tribute to Beard: “I wish Matt’s condolences to Matt’s family on behalf of everyone at Liverpool Football Club, his wife Debbie, his children Harry and Ellie and his wider family and friends.

“It’s been a really sad time for everyone. You’ve seen how the club and football came together, and now we’re expanding our sympathy for Matt’s family and friends.

“Matt has been an iconic figure in the women’s game. Obviously, Liverpool wins two WSL titles and then promoted from the championship to WSL. You can see the success it has brought to the club over the years.

“Only the success in the field, the people in the game, players, staff, colleagues in the field is not the success in the field – Liverpool, football club, as well as women’s football and wider football you can see how much love and joy it brings.”
