Pulse Polio Drive Begins in Hyderabad, Targeting Over 5 Lakh Children

Hyderabad: The Pulse Polio Vaccination Drive began in Hyderabad district on Sunday, where oral polio drops were administered to children under the age of five as part of a nationwide campaign to prevent a resurgence of the disease. Hyderabad is among the six districts of Telangana where the special drive will be held from October 12 to 15.

At the Urban Primary Health Center (UPHC) in Tilaknagar, Narayanguda, parents arrived early with their children. Some babies cried, some smiled after taking their drops.

Senior Public Health Officer Dr. D.Padamila said: Deccan Chronicle He said four teams comprising nurses, Anganwadi and ASHA workers administered the doses. “There are 169 stalls and six urban primary education centers targeting 35,893 children,” he said.

Parent D. Manasa, who brought her 3.5-year-old daughter with her, said, “Small health problems in children worry us, so taking precautions is a priority. We always prefer public hospitals for vaccination.”

We allow vaccination to children with mild symptoms, but do not allow those with high fever or severe cold. Since we cannot vaccinate all children in two days, we have requested an extra day to complete the drive,” Deepti said.

According to Hyderabad District Collector Harichandana Dasari, 2,843 vaccination centers were set up during the campaign to cover 9,36,016 households targeting around 5,17,238 children.
